Congratulations to Malibu High Senior Sabrina Carey for receiving the Dolphin Award for her volunteer work in helping the homeless in Malibu and Mexico: ALL  


The Malibu Times Publishers Arnold and Karen York are proud to announce the 2017 Dolphin Award winners, one of which is our very own Sabrina Carey.  The Dolphin award is give to members of our community who have work hard to improve the lives of those around them. Operation Smile: ALL

Malibu High School is doing a fundraising drive for the month of February for Operation Smile.  Every 2nd period class that raises at least $240 (the cost of a surgery) will receive a donut party. Managing High School Stress and Anxiety in Preparation for Final Exams, AP Exams, College Applications and Life: High School


This is a drop in high school lunch group led by a clinician to help students talk about their feelings of being overwhelmed. Helpful stress reduction skills are demonstrated and students find support in conversation with one another. Meets in the Library during high school lunch. Feel free to bring your lunch. ATTENTION  all 8th Grade Parents You have until the end of this week to submit your dedication page for your student.  The deadline is March 1, 2018 and I know that you don’t want to miss this opportunity to acknowledge the accomplishments of your amazing student.  Please remember that if you need any help in designing your dedication I am available.  You can call, email or come in person with any questions or problems you have.  I look forward to seeing all the interesting dedications that you come up with.  The prices are ¼ page - $60.00, ½ page $120.00 and a full page - $200.00.

ATTENTION MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENTS Does your student participate in any SPORT.  We are looking for pictures of our middle school students doing sport activities for the Middle School Yearbook, which includes baseball, football, basketball, softball, swimming, tennis, dance or ballet.  I am sure there are more so please send me some pictures to put in the Middle School Yearbook.  I will accept any pictures up until March 2, 2018.  Please make the photos at least 300 pixels so that I can re-size them to fit in the space I have available.  If they don’t have enough pixels they will only appear as a very small picture on the page.  Email me at and I look forward to hearing from you.

Parents of 8th graders, don’t miss this chance to place a dedication page for your student in their final year book for middle school.  Ads are $60.00 for ¼ page, $120.00 for ½ page and $200.00 for a full page.  You can create your own page using the website, download a page that you created or request that we make your page for you.  The deadline for a dedication page is March 1, 2018.  We must be strict about this deadline so that the book can be completed and submitted to the printers on time!

College Workshop: This Thursday Ms. Nguyen will talk about Touring Colleges. When to tour, what questions to ask, why touring is important, and how touring colleges will help with your college application process! We will be in C-19 during support period.


Santa Monica College application day is Wednesday, February 28th during support. Any seniors who are interested in attending Santa Monica College should come during support to the computer lab to fill out their application.

All High School Students need to update and log in their Service learning hours into Naviance. Remember, 80 hours are required to walk with your graduating class. If a student completes double their required amount, the student will graduate with Service Learning honors. Juniors must log in a minimum of 50 hours by early May in order to be able to attend Prom. Seniors must have all their hours completed and logged in by early May as well.

Students, please check out the MHS Service Learning Calendar to find Service Learning opportunities.  There you will find events for each month that you can click on to find out all the details.  This calendar is regularly updated, so please use this handy tool and check it out!  Additionally, there is a Community Service Learning bulletin board located outside in the Cafeteria area, where you will find posters, flyers, and other pertinent Service Learning information.  You can access the calendar by going to the MHS Website Homepage:



During Support period on Thursday, March 1 come to the High School Quad to help stuff goody bags for the  reddy2fight organization that provides safe and fun goodies to hospitalized children in and around the Los Angeles area. The St. Patrick’s Day themed goodies will delight the children who receive them, while our students are helping a good cause and earning one hour of Service Learning!

Topanga Symphony Concert
Come help serve refreshments while enjoying some great music at the Topanga Community House, 1440 Topanga Canyon Blvd., on Sunday, March 4 from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm. For more information contact Jean Mitchell at:

Wolf Camp applications now being accepted. High School students are invited to apply for Wolf Camp which will take place May 15 - 18 at Camp Hess Kramer. If interested, students will need to pick up an application form from Ms. Soloway. The application needs to be completed and returned to Juan Cabrillo Elementary School no later than Thursday, March 22. Students must be succeeding in school and will be responsible for making up any missed work. Approximately 8 boys and 8 girls will be selected to act as counselors for the Juan Cabrillo fifth grade class and are required to stay the entire time. The camp is free to selected counselors. Food and board will be provided. Upon completion, each counselor will receive 60 hours of community service. For more information contact Ms. Soloway at

Dole Great Race of Agoura Hills  is looking for volunteers! Sign ups begin now and can be found on the MHS CSL calendar. Volunteers are needed for March 22, 23, and 24. Spots fill up quickly so sign up now and earn those service learning hours while helping out our local schools.

Cars and Coffee is an ongoing event and happens every 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month at Malibu Bluffs Park from 7:00 am - 9:00 am. Help with directing cars in the parking lot, set-up, clean-up, and taking photos. Please register with the City of Malibu,

Every first Friday of each month come volunteer at the Topanga Community Center to help serve dinner to The Sage Senior citizens.  Come help set up, prep food, serve food and beverages, socialize with Seniors, and help and clean up. Hand in Hand is an ongoing event that happens every Thursday during the School Year. You may come any Thursday from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm at the Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue, 24855 Pacific Coast Highway. Hand in Hand is an after school inclusion program. Be a peer buddy for teens and young adults with special needs. BEGINNING THIS MONTH  - “Malibu Youth Group & Malibu Music Nights”: ALL


Devon Meyers, a local Malibu High parent, musician, song writer and photographer is starting a Music and Art based Youth Group.   This group will be open to all Malibu Middle and High School Students free of charge, who are in the visual and performing arts.  The group will meet every Monday from 3pm - 5:30pm in the Mayhugh Community Room located in the Malibu Methodist parking lot.  Students are welcome to bring their instruments and come play, write, sing and jam with fellow students.  Photography and art students are welcome too!


Each month the group will be showcasing “Malibu Music Nights”and feature performances from group members as well as local adult artists.  This event will take place at Malibu Methodist on the third Saturday of the month from 6:30pm - 8:30pm.  A fun, safe supervised space for your students to come and showcase their talents.  All instruments, acoustic and amplified, and music genres welcome!

Wellness Center at the Boys and Girls Club: ALL


It’s a New Year at the Wellness Center! We have new group and class offerings, a larger staff of clinicians and a great new facility. We opened our doors this past Fall, hoping to help students at all four campuses of the Malibu public schools. Increasing feelings of anxiety, depression, hopelessness, and family conflict is experienced by many of our students. 2018 Ninth Circuit Civics Contest: High School


The prompt for the 2018 Ninth Circuit Civics contest  is “What does equal protection mean to students?” Students should consider how the Equal Protection Clause applies in high schools, colleges and graduate schools, whether in admissions, classrooms or on athletic  fields. Individual students can express their thoughts and ideas in an essay of between 500 and 1,000 words. Individuals and teams of up to three students can produce a 3-5 minute video on the theme. A student may submit both an essay and video. A student may submit only one essay and be involved in the production of only one video.


The essay or video should: 1) Demonstrate an understanding of the historical background of the Equal Protection Clause; 2) Explain the constitutional powers and rights relevant to the court cases and laws mentioned above; and 3) Discuss the important role of the Judicial Branch in preserving the rights of Americans to equal education.


The 2018 Ninth Circuit Civics Contest is open to high school students in nine western states and two Pacific island jurisdictions. Students from public, private, parochial and charter schools and home-schooled students of equivalent grade status may enter.


Cash prizes for winners of the essay and video competitions:

1st place: $2000;  2nd place: $1000;  3rd place: $500

Applications for the Coro Youth Fellows Program, a full-time, six-week leadership development and civic engagement program for Los Angeles area high school students are now open! Coro Southern California has been cultivating and training civic leaders since 1957 and we are excited to be recruiting for our 2nd class of Coro Youth Fellows. Applications are due April 1, 2018 for the summer(June 25- Aug 3 session). Competitive applicants will be invited to participate in a Youth Fellows Selection Day.


During their fellowship, Youth Fellows:

  • Interview local leaders

  • Attend site visits to learn how systems work and how things get done in SoCal

  • Intern for 2 weeks in a nonprofit, government, or private sector placement

  • Participate in group projects that challenge them to engage with local stakeholders

  • Practice and refine leadership skills

  • Develop mentors and networks to support their academic and professional growth
