FloWater Hydration Stations - Ribbon Cutting Ceremony: ALL

Environmental Club and Site Council students, parents, teachers, administrators, district staff and FloWater executives attended the Ribbon-cutting Ceremony for the three newly installed FloWater filtered water hydration stations on Thursday. The news media were on hand to document the event and help spread the word to the Malibu community. After just one week, MHS students and staff have already saved over 1,000 bottles from landfills!

The Environmental Club is seeking donations to fund ongoing rental fees for the systems. If you would like to underwrite or contribute to a FloWater unit, please make a donation to The Shark Fund at www.thesharkfund.org and designate your donation to "Hydration Stations."

COMMUNITY NEWS

Wellness Center at the Boys and Girls Club: ALL

It's a New Year at the Wellness Center! We have new group and class offerings, a larger staff of clinicians and a great new facility. We opened our doors this past Fall, hoping to help students at all four campuses of the Malibu public schools. Increasing feelings of anxiety, depression, hopelessness, and family conflict is experienced by many of our students. Please click HERE to see a list of some of the free programs we have at the Wellness Center to help right here on campus, during or after the school day.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR IMPORTANT TEEN SAFETY PROGRAM - EVERY 15 MINUTES: ALL

EVERY 15 MINUTES is a California Highway Patrol sponsored program that simulates and recreates a drunk driving collision involving high school students of the hosting high school. It is a tremendously powerful learning experience and deterrent against impaired and distracted driving.

Malibu High School PTSA and The Shark Fund has produced the EVERY 15 MINUTES program 3 times, 2009, 2012, and 2015. Due to campus construction, the anticipated 2018 production was replaced by an encore screening of the film that accompanied the 2015 production for the seniors and juniors. If construction of the middle school drop off lot is sufficiently complete, production of EVERY 15 MINUTES can resume for the Spring of 2019 (or 2020). There is a long lead in time for production due to relevant grant applications, but it seems likely that Spring 2019 is a feasible production goal. This rewarding production is a parental team effort. Anyone interested in becoming part of this production team, please attend the upcoming PTSA Association meeting on January 25, 9 am in room C19 at Juan Cabrillo Elementary School (accessed by the high school driveway gate), or contact Audra Hotchkiss at hotch3@gmail.com.
