SCHOOL NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION: ALL

Dear MHS Parents,

Great news! The Education Foundation has secured a $50,000 match to benefit our students! All you need to do for our students to benefit from this full match is make a donation now. Your donation to support great programs like the STAR Program with Deputy Jake, teacher training and Wellness Center counseling will be doubled!

As Principal, I know that your child's school day would look vastly different without Ed Foundation-funded staff and programs.  Please make your donation to the Ed Foundation today so these programs continue next year.

Sincerely,

Cheli Nye

Principal

P.S. In February, the SMMUSD Board of Education will determine funding for instructional assistants, arts, and other enrichment programs for next year, based on the amount donated by January 31. Our students need your donation now. Thank you in advance!

Student Parking: ALL

All students will continue to park in the same student parking lot near the pool area.  The new parking lot is now open for staff parking only.  There will be no student parking allowed in the new parking lot.  Also, please do not park in the green curb area in front of the school.   The Lost Hills Sheriff Department will be ticketing cars that are parked there as this is a drop off area only.

It is the time of year that the sun is rising in direct alignment with Morning View Drive, causing glare for drivers using this route for drop off.  Please be aware that this route is also shared by students on bicycles and pedestrians.  Please drive at a safe speed, keep windshields clean to minimize glare, and always be aware of others on this 2 lane road.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR IMPORTANT TEEN SAFETY PROGRAM - EVERY 15 MINUTES: ALL

EVERY 15 MINUTES is a California Highway Patrol sponsored program that simulates and recreates a drunk driving collision involving high school students of the hosting high school.  It is a tremendously powerful learning experience and deterrent against impaired and distracted driving.

Malibu High School PTSA and The Shark Fund has produced the EVERY 15 MINUTES program 3 times, 2009, 2012, and 2015.  Due to campus construction, the anticipated 2018 production was replaced by an encore screening of the film that accompanied the 2015 production for the seniors and juniors. If construction of the middle school drop off lot is sufficiently  complete, production of EVERY 15 MINUTES can resume for the Spring of 2019 (or 2020).  There is a long lead in time for production due to relevant grant applications, but it seems likely that Spring 2019 is a feasible production goal.  This rewarding production is a parental team effort.  Anyone interested in becoming part of this production team, please attend the upcoming PTSA Association meeting on January 25, 9 am in room C19 at Juan Cabrillo Elementary School (accessed by the high school driveway gate), or contact Audra Hotchkiss at hotch3@gmail.com.
