Monday Message: January 30

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents and Friends,

I know it’s been a few weeks since my last memo, so I hope everyone had a wonderful break and have had a great start to 2017.  We have been busy getting use to our new portables and classrooms, trying to stay warm and dry, and kicking off the second semester.

I know that there was some information that went out yesterday about upcoming surveys students will be taking next week, but I want to reiterate the importance of giving our students a voice in their education and school.  The Olweus survey will focus on culture and climate at Malibu High while the Challenge Success survey will have a broader reach as it also addresses classroom activities, homework, extracurricular participation and the use of support.  All grades will take the Olweus survey and the Challenge Success survey will be given in grades 9-12.  Once we get the results of both surveys, leaderships teams will be using the data to help make plans as we discuss decisions for next year. I encourage students to use the surveys to inform us of their opinions and concerns.  In addition, we have a Student Voice group that meets on campus.  This is an open forum for students to talk about needs for the school.  See the daily bulletin for announcements for their next meeting.  Robin Williams said, “No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.”  We want to hear our students’ words and ideas, so please encourage your students to tell us what’s on their minds.

It is spirit week this week!  If you see me in sweat pants or board shorts, I’m just supporting our students.  J It seems that the weather is going to be a little more cooperative this week so hopefully we will see all students having a good time with our this and that theme.  Further, I’m looking forward to my first dance at Malibu for the high school this Saturday. I anticipate a great week at MHS!

Go Sharks!

Cheli Nye, Ed.D.
