This year finals are on Wednesday, Dec. 20th, Thursday, Dec. 21st and Friday, Dec. 22nd.  All three days are early outs.  Wednesday will be for 1st and 4th period.  Thursday will be for 2nd and 5th period.  Friday will be for 3rd and 6th period.

Giving Tuesday for Shark Fund: ALL


As part of the #GivingTuesday global movement, The Shark Fund invites you to contribute on Tues, Nov. 28, any amount you can.   All donations are 100% tax-deductible and used only for Malibu Middle & High School special programs in Arts, Music, Sports, Technology, Teacher/Classroom support and more.

Please be a part of this effort if you have not yet contributed this school year.   $ 2000 per student per school year is suggested; all amounts large and small are most needed and appreciated! Food Drop Off: ALL


This is a reminder to not drop off lunches during the school day. We are trying not to provide any source of food for the rodents that we are slowly removing from the school setting.


Malibu Optimist Club Youth Appreciation Award: ALL


On Thursday, November 16, Malibu High School students were recognized at Pepperdine University for receiving the Malibu Optimist Club Youth Appreciation Award!

Also Congratulations to Claudia Lane for her outstanding performance at the California State Meet this last weekend in Fresno, for the 2nd year in a row Claudia is the Division 4 State Champion.  Her time of 16.30 is the fastest time ever in the history of that course and is the fastest in the country.  Please congratulate her and wish her good luck as she prepares to defend her National Championship title in two weeks at the Footlocker National Championship Cross Country Meet.  Go Sharks!

The MHS Choirs have exciting news! The Matsiko World Orphan Choir will be performing as our featured guest choir during our Winter Concert on Thursday, December 14th at 7pm: ALL


The children in this choir are from Liberia, India, Nepal and Peru.  They are either orphaned or “at risk” and are in the United States for one year. The choir has performed in many schools, cultural events, festivals and churches across the United States. Their purpose for performing and touring across America is to spread awareness of the many orphan children in the world as well as raise money for these children to go to college and be successful.


We are looking for host families who can accommodate two children and an adult chaperone during the Matsiko Choir's stay here in Malibu. MHS is having a sock Drive November 27 - December 1: ALL


This sock drive is for youth who use the LAPD's LGBTQ Center for food and clothing. Please donate any NEW pairs of socks during this week. There is a collection box in the Main Office.

2017-2018 Middle School Yearbooks on sale NOW: Middle School


Order you MS Yearbook on or pick up an order form in the Main Office.  Order before February 1, 2018, for $35.00 ea. After that date the price goes up to $50.00 ea.  Order early and save!

If you want your student’s name stamped on the cover of the yearbook, place you order online or pick up an order form in the Main Office.  Orders must be received before January 20, 2018.


Parents of 8th graders, don’t miss this chance to place a dedication page for your student in their final year book for middle school.  Ads are $60.00 for ¼ page, $120.00 for ½ page and $200.00 for a full page.  You can create your own page using the website, download a page that you created or request that we make your page for you.  The deadline for a dedication page is March 1, 2018.  We must be strict about this deadline so that the book can be completed and submitted to the printers on time!

Committee to Help Select High School Summer Reading for 2018: High School


Are you interested in serving on an advisory committee to  help select  high school summer reading for 2018?   The  first meeting  will be on Thursday Nov. 30th in Bonnie Thoreson's room, 208, from 3:15 to 4:30.   At this meeting we will review how last year's selections were received, and brainstorm possible choices for this summer, 2018.  If you are potentially interested, please email Bonnie Thoreson at, and you will be put on the list to get updates on  meetings, etc.  If you know someone else who might be interested, please pass along this message.




Parents of Seniors:

The UC's and CSU's filing period is now open. Please be sure to note that the deadline to submit any applications is November 30th. No letters of recommendation or transcript required. Test scores, SAT/ACT must be submitted by students directly to the UC/CSU to complete application for review. Don't forget to file the FAFSA for federal aid. Go to to complete your application.




As seniors start their final year in high school, there are a few things they will want to plan ahead for.  Many will be applying to colleges this Fall and that process can be overwhelming and stressful.  Students are encouraged to stop by the College and Career office to make an appointment for some assistance/support.

Please check out the MHS Service Learning Calendar to find Service Learning opportunities.  There you will find events for each month that you can click on to find out all the details.  This calendar is regularly updated, so please use this handy tool and check it out!  Additionally, there is a Community Service Learning bulletin located outside in the Cafeteria area, where you will find posters, flyers, and other pertinent Service Learning information.  You can access the calendar by going to the MHS Website Homepage:



The MHS ABC Christmas Tree Lot is opening November 24. Look for sign up times to volunteer (forthcoming) on our MHS Website!

Every first Friday of each month (except for December, it will be the first Sunday), come volunteer at the Topanga Community Center to help serve dinner to The Sage Senior citizens.  Come help set up, prep food, serve food and beverages, socialize with Seniors, and help and clean up. Cars and Coffee is an ongoing event that happens every 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month at the Malibu Bluffs Park from 7:00 am - 9:00 am. Come volunteer to assist with directing cars in the parking lot, set-up, clean-up, and taking photos.  Please register with the City of Malibu at, or contact Katie Gallo at 310-317-1364.

Hand in Hand is an ongoing event that happens every Thursday during the School Year. You may come any Thursday from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm at the Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue, 24855 Pacific Coast Highway. Hand in Hand is an after school inclusion program. Be a peer buddy for teens and young adults with special needs. Join them for cooking, crafts, music, games, yoga, etc. It's something different each week.  For more info contact: Janet Ettenger at or call 310-435-6543.

Another ongoing opportunity is on Fridays from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at the Malibu Senior Center, Malibu City Hall, 23815 Stuart Ranch Road.  Volunteers will assist Seniors at the Computer Workshop. You may help participants with their laptop, tablet, phone, etc. Show Seniors how to download apps, create an email, send photos, etc.  Please register with the City of Malibu at, or for more information please call  Katie Gallo at 310-317-1364.


City of Malibu 2017 Holiday Open House - Thurs, December 14th -  4pm - 6pm: ALL


Join the Malibu City Council, Commissioners, fellow community members, business and civic leaders for a joyous celebration of the holidays at Malibu City Hall. Enjoy an art show hosted by Malibu Arts Angels with works by talented student artists, and live performances by student musicians from Malibu Middle and High School. Nibble on tasty treats and sip hot cocoa and cider, and add your artistic hand print to the Community Art Tree, which will be on display as part of the City's Student Art Show. Bring a donation for the Spark of Love Toy Drive benefiting at-risk youth and receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win terrific prizes donated by local businesses. The event is free, and no RSVPs are necessary.
