GIVING WEEK is running NOW through Sunday, October 8, and there are PRIZES EVERY DAY!

The Shark Fund's GIVING WEEK is our BIG fall outreach focused on raising much-needed funds for all of our enrichment programs. We hope EVERYONE will give something during this week to help us reach our goal of 100% participation.

 These funds are needed for this school year and will go directly towards:

  • Arts Angels - Supporting Music, Visual, and Performing Arts
  • ABC (Athletic Booster Club) - Supporting all of our great Sports Teams
  • Teacher & Student Support Services
  • 21st Century Classrooms
  • STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
  • Drug & Alcohol Awareness, Prevention &  Counseling…. and so much more

Please contribute during GIVING WEEK and you will be entered in the daily raffle for each day’s contributors. GRAND PRIZES will be awarded at the end of the week for total contributions of $500 or more since August 1, 2017:

  • Apple iPad Pro (Gold, 10.5-inch display, Wi-Fi)
  • Jimmy Kimmel VIP Green Room (four guests)

This is THE week when EVERYONE is encouraged to contribute in order to fund our programs for the year.  We are requesting $2,000 (about $175 per month), however all levels are important. Help us reach our goal of having every family make a contribution of any amount.

THE GREAT SHAKEOUT - October 19, 2017

On October 19, 2017, our school will participate in the Great California ShakeOut - a State-wide earthquake drill. Everyone will practice how to drop, cover and hold on, and teachers will discuss the importance of earthquake preparedness with our students. This is the chance for us all to practice what to do during earthquakes to reduce potential injuries.

Earthquake preparedness is a responsibility of all Californians and we encourage you to also discuss earthquake readiness with your child and others at home.

Tuesday, October 3: Financial Aid Night at Malibu High, 6:00 PM, room C-19. Join us for an important information session on financial aid. We will have a financial aid adviser speaking to students and parents regarding the financial aid process, FAFSA, deadlines, and overall breakdown in the different type of aid students may qualify for. All senior students and parents are encouraged to attend.

Thursday, October 5: Choir Fall Concert - There will be a meet and greet before the concert starting at 6:00PM and then the concert will begin at 7:00PM and end at 8:00PM. 




The 7th grade field trip is coming up on October 10, 2017. This will be a day spent at Camp Hess Kramer, led by Fulcrum Adventures, that will consist of a ropes course, rock climbing wall, and many other games and team building activities.   More information will be given out during Ms. Galipeau's class.    Forms and payment are due by Tuesday, October 3.  Contact Ms. Andino at for more information or to request a scholarship.  Your 7th grader will not want to miss out on this exciting day with their classmates! >Click to Download Field Trip forms.



On Wednesday, October 11, all sophomores and juniors will take the PSAT. Sophomores will test in the upper gym and juniors will test in the lower gym. Arrive by 7:50, and testing starts at 8:00 sharp. Testing is free for sophomores; juniors pay $35 online by going to, ASB Student Store, and type in PSAT in the search bar. Deadline for juniors to pay is Friday, October 6. Students bring two #2 pencils, a calculator, and snacks/lunch.



On Wednesday, October 11th during the school day the SAT with Essay will be administered to seniors.  We will be on a special schedule to accommodate the all day testing.  Students that wish to OPT OUT of taking the test should see Mr. Sferra by FRIDAY, October 6th at the latest.  Otherwise you will be assigned a testing room and expected to test.

Bring a snack and water, plus several #2 pencils and a calculator on the day of testing.  Testing room assignments will be posted in your English class prior to testing day.


This year’s theme is “Within Reach.”  Categories include visual arts, literature, photography, music composition, dance, and film.  Entry forms and Rules are available in the Main Office. Entries must be submitted to Sarah Ryan in the library no later than October 13th.






As seniors start their final year in high school, there are a few things they will want to plan ahead for.  Many will be applying to colleges this Fall and that process can be overwhelming and stressful.  Students are encouraged to stop by the College and Career office to make an appointment for some assistance/support.

  • SAT - 12th graders may participate in taking the SAT with Essay on October 11th on the MHS campus as part of the school day. Counselor have been in English classrooms having students sign up.  See your counselor if you have questions or concerns.


Former USC Admission Counselor: Seniors
A former admission counselor at USC will be on campus to review your college essay and provide feedback!  If you would like your essay to be reviewed, sign up for an appointment.

Standing on Stone (S.O.S) dinners happen every Thursday night at 6:00 pm at the Malibu Methodist Church, 30128 Morning View Drive in Malibu. Help set up, serve food, and clean up weekly dinners for underprivileged people.

Every first Friday of each month (except for December, it will be the first Sunday), come volunteer at the Topanga Community Center to help serve dinner to The Sage Senior citizens. This Friday, Oct. 6 from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm (or any part of this time frame) come help set up, prep food, serve food and beverages, socialize with Seniors, and help and clean up. Pumpkinpalooza is happening at Camp Keystone in Agoura Saturday, October 7!  Sumac Elementary School is hosting its first annual event and it's sure to be a fun way to earn Service Learning hours.
