2.   Finish reading chapters 5 and 6 of Lord of the Flies and chapter questions by Wednesday.

2.  Complete #1-4 on the "Defining a Hero" handout and type one paragraph based on this handout by Wednesday.

2.  The 5 paragraph Odyssey essay (MLA format) is due Monday, October 30th (or earlier is fine).

Week:  October 16 - October 20, 2017
 Monday: 1. The typed and printed out Pages Read assignment, with rubric stapled to the back, is due tomorrow.
2. Bring your textbook to class all week (volume 2).

 Tuesday: The typed and printed out PTSD paragraph is due tomorrow. Staple your prewriting to the back.

 Wednesday:  
Typed and printed out poem DUE THIS FRIDAY. (You will start working on it in class.)

Use "Siren Song" by Margaret Atwood as your model to create your own poem.  Choose one of the individuals that Odysseus meets on his journey and write a poem from this character's perspective.  Tell this character's true story of how he/she views life, role in society, etc. The poem must be at least 4 stanzas and it does not need to rhyme.  Take time to find strong, interesting words that accurately reflect how the character would most likely feel and think.  Be ready to read your poem to the class and to have peers guess your character.

Week:  October 9 - October 13, 2017
 Monday: 1. The Literature Reflections Entry is due October 11 (this Wednesday).  Please complete the entry form and be sure to have a parent sign it.
2.  Read your SSR book for at least 20 minutes each night and bring it to class daily.  
The "Pages Read" assignment is due Monday, October 16.
3.  Finish reading pages 609 - 616 in your textbook (Volume 2) and answer #1-3 on page 617.
4.  We will have an in-class writing assignment on Part 2 of The Odyssey tomorrow.
 Tuesday: 1. Your Reflections entry is due tomorrow!
2.  The vocabulary quiz #2 is Thursday.

 Wednesday:  
Finish class work by tomorrow. (Read the graphic novel excerpts and the Joseph Campbell interview, pages 624-629 and pages 661-663).  Answer #1-3 on page 630, #1-4 on page 632 and #1-4 on page 663).

3.  Finish reading pages 563-576 of The Odyssey (in your textbook) and answer all of the Close Read questions in the margins of pages 566, 571 and 574.  All of this is due Wednesday.
4.  Research presentations are due TOMORROW!  Be ready to present!
 Tuesday: 1.  The decorated portfolio is due tomorrow.
2.  Review your notes from the class presentations for a short quiz this Friday on main ideas from the presentations.

 Wednesday:  
1. Read pages 576 - 589 (finish Part I of The Odyssey) by Friday.  While you do not need to answer the Close Read questions, come to class prepared to discuss your reading on Friday.
2.  Review your notes from the class presentations for a short quiz FRIDAY on main ideas from the presentations.
