THE SHARK FUND: ALL  
THE SHARK FUND for MHS – “March into the Future” –keeps marching, and we now have 72% of our Shark Fund Budget covered, with 41% of families having contributed. If you haven't yet donated to the Shark Fund this year, please do so during March! Remember -- all of your tax-deductible donations stay right here at MHS.  And thank you SO much for supporting our school – so needed for all the programs in Arts, Athletics, “STEM” support, technology in classrooms, teacher and student services, and a lot more !  To contribute one time or monthly:   www.thesharkfund.org   

PTSA HONORARY SERVICE AWARDS: ALL  
The annual PTSA Honorary Service Awards ceremony will take place on May 25th, and deserving individuals will be honored for the service and commitment to our students and school community.  We are now accepting nominations for deserving recipients.  Nomination forms can be found in the main office and can be returned to the President’s box when completed.  Is there someone you feel has gone the extra mile, or someone you feel deserves recognition for doing an outstanding job at MHS?  Please consider nominating that special person.  Nominated individuals or organizations who have made significant contributions to the well being of children, youth or families in Malibu High School or Malibu can be considered for this award. NEW MHS ONLINE DIRECTORY:ALL

12TH GRADE GRADUATION: GRADE 12

High School (Grades 9-12) yearbooks can be purchased by going to yearbooksforever.com. The last day to buy a high school yearbook is May 1. 2016-2017 Middle School Yearbooks are also on sale.  Order your MS Yearbook on yearbooksforever.com or pick up an order form in the Main Office.

AP TESTING INFORMATION: HS
2017 AP EXAMS ARE FAST APPROACHING! Payment for exams is due by WEDNESDAY, MARCH 29. The cost is $120 per exam, with a $10 late fee beyond the March 29 due date. Pay online via the ASB Student Store. Click on that icon on our website, select College Board Exams under "Departments" on the left, then choose the exams you're taking. It's easy! Checks payable to MHS or cash can also be brought to Mary Slawter in the student store. Your prompt attention to this is much appreciated!

POMS MEETING: GRADE 8 AND MS
This month's POMS meeting, scheduled for Friday, March 31 at 8:30am in C19 will include information for grade 8 parents about the transition to high school.  This presentation will include the high school counselors and athletic director and replaces the originally scheduled meeting for 8th grade families as part of Open House.  We invite all 8th grade families to attend this month's POMS meeting to get important information as your student prepares for the next stage of their schooling career. 

SPRING BREAK: ALL
Malibu High School will be closed April 3, 2017-April 14, 2017.  School resumes on Monday, April 17, 2017.


PLAN AHEAD


CAASPP STATE TESTING: GRADES 6-8, 10, 11
Students in grades 6-8 and 11 will take CAASPP state testing for English April 17-21, immediately upon returning from spring break. Students in grades 6-8, and 11 will take CAASPP state testing for Math April 24-28.  Students in grade 8 and 10 will also take a pilot Science test between April 24-28.  We are publicizing these dates early because of their proximity to spring break.  Daily attendance is important every day including these state testing days.  Students are encouraged to bring their own headphones during testing dates.

SAVE THE DATES: GRADES 8 AND 12
High School Graduation is scheduled for Thursday, June 8 at 2:00pm.  Carpooling is going to be a necessity with the large construction project.  Middle School Promotion will take place Friday, June 9 at 9:00am.  


COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER NEWS
ALL STUDENTS: March is College Madness Month. 

Every Monday, show your college spirit by wearing a t-shirt or sweat shirt. 

Every Wednesday: College Workshopsin the College and Career center during support.

 SERVICE LEARNING


The City of Malibu is looking for students in 7th - 12th grade who are interested in making a difference in their community. If you would like to be a part of the Harry Barovsky Memorial Youth Commission, please contact Katie Gallo at kgallo@malibucity.org/youthcommission.

The Spring Baja Build is coming up May 27th - May 28th! If you are interested in signing up please go to www.malibupres.org/baja for more information and to register. You will receive 24 hours of community service for this trip.

Every 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month Malibu hosts Cars and Coffee at the Bluffs Park from 7:00 am - 10:00 am. If you are interested in helping with set-up, clean-up, directing cars in the parking lot and taking photos, please sign up with the City of Malibu: malibucity.org/teens.

SUMMER ADVENTURE:  The Summer Adventure Registration opens Monday, March 20th!  Our amazing summer program for elementary aged students will run from June 19 through July 21, 2017. Early Bird Registration: Only $525 for five weeks.  Come for all five weeks, or pay by the week.  Childcare is available before and after for an additional fee. A new theme each week!  Movers, Shakers, Gizmo Makers; Nature Gone Wild; Pop Culture Explosion; Lights, Camera, Action; Global Food Frenzy.  Visit us at summer-adventure.org

A SPECIAL SCREENING: NO LETTING GO:  The city of Thousand Oaks Libray on Monday, April 24, 2017 6:00-8:00pm in the Grant R. Brimhall Library will host a screening of “No Letting Go.”  It is a dramatic, independent feature film adapted from the award-winning short film, ILLNESS, and based on the real-life story of producer and co-writer Randi Silverman and her family. The film is a heartfelt look at one family’s journey to understand and to cope with the erratic behavior and emotional instability of their middle son. The producers of No Letting Go have partnered with The Youth Mental Health Project, a nonprofit organization seeking to promote awareness and understanding of the mental health of children, adolescents, and young adults.
